Twenty-seven participants completed three five-minute rounds under systematically varied team climates using a within-subjects design. Unknown to participants, teammates were trained confederates enacting one of three behaviors: supportive (encouraging through in-game help and positive chat), toxic (withholding cooperation and criticizing), or neutral (functionally cooperative yet emotionally detached). Condition order was randomized. After each round, participants rated belonging, motivation, fairness, enjoyment, frustration, and competitiveness. Results showed that performance peaked under supportive conditions, followed by toxic, and was lowest in neutral play. Motivation was strongest in supportive and neutral settings, while toxicity increased competitiveness and frustration but lowered engagement. Sense of belonging and cooperative success were highest in supportive contexts and significantly differed across all conditions (p < .05)."}]}],"bf:provisionActivity":[{"@type":"bf:Publication","bf:agent":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"University of Krems Press"}]}]}],"dce:subject":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"esports"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"social climate"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"player motivation"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"emotional engagement"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"team dynamics"}]}],"dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Affective and behavioral modulations under contrasting social climates"}],"bf:subtitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Toxicity vs. Support in cooperative Esports paradigms"}]}],"dcterms:issued":["2026-02-26"],"dcterms:language":["eng"],"dcterms:type":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/69ZZ-2KGX"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Testo"}]}],"ebucore:filename":["4_FROG2025 Afshin et al.pdf"],"ebucore:hasMimeType":["application\/pdf"],"edm:hasType":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/XA52-09WA"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"book part"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Buchkapitel"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Capitolo di libro"}]}],"edm:rights":["http:\/\/rightsstatements.org\/vocab\/InC\/1.0\/"],"rdam:P30004":[{"@type":"ids:doi","@value":"10.48341\/frog25.4"}],"rdau:P60193":[{"@type":"schema:CreativeWork","dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"deu","@value":"ESPORTS - Esports Professions and Opportunities: Ressources and Training for Success"}]}],"dcterms:issued":["2026"],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:doi","@value":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.48341\/mp52-5743"}]}],"role:aut":[{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"University of Klagenfurt"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/05q9m0937"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Gholami"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Afshin"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"0009-0000-0086-6611"}]},{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/047wbd030"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Yousefzadeh"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Seyedsadegh"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"0009-0002-0978-2507"}]},{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"Universität für Weiterbildung Krems"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/03ef4a036"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Pfeiffer"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Alexander"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"0000-0002-8689-3318"}]}]}
