In these games, groups of players work together to complete a mis-\nsion and\/or escape from a particular situation. Despite their growing popularity, there\nis still limited research on the learning processes that occur within this environment.\nThis study explores the learning experiences of participants in an educational escape\ngame by examining the strategies adopted by different groups of players and the ex-\ntent to which they discuss the educational content during gameplay. An educational\nscience escape room was played by 24 MSc students at a UK university. The students\nwere divided into groups, and each group was video recorded during the gameplay.\nThe recordings were analysed to identify the strategies used by each group and to\nquantify the amount of science-related talk that occurred while solving the puzzles.\nFive types of strategies were identified: seeking, individual leadership, doing, collab-\norating, and working without a clear strategy. Analysis of the video data also revealed\nhow much time was spent discussing the scientific content. Overall, none of the\ngroups engaged extensively in science-related discussion. The “doing” strategy led to\nthe fastest puzzle completion, whereas collaboration produced the most science talk.\nThe paper concludes by discussing the implications of these findings and suggesting\nfuture directions for research on educational escape rooms."}]}],"bf:provisionActivity":[{"@type":"bf:Publication","bf:agent":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"Department für  Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften, Universität für Weiterbildung Krems"}]}]}],"dce:subject":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Escape room"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"game-based learning"}]},{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"informal science education"}]}],"dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Solving educational escape room games"}],"bf:subtitle":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Group strategies and talk about educational content"}]}],"dcterms:issued":["2025-11-06"],"dcterms:language":["eng"],"dcterms:type":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/69ZZ-2KGX"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Text"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Testo"}]}],"ebucore:filename":["__DAC_ 2_08_FIN.pdf"],"ebucore:hasMimeType":["application\/pdf"],"edm:hasType":[{"@type":"skos:Concept","skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/pid.phaidra.org\/vocabulary\/VKA6-9XTY"],"skos:prefLabel":[{"@language":"eng","@value":"journal article"},{"@language":"deu","@value":"Wissenschaftlicher Artikel"},{"@language":"ita","@value":"Articolo di rivista"}]}],"edm:rights":["http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/4.0\/"],"rdam:P30004":[{"@type":"ids:doi","@value":"10.48341\/ptsr-9s68"}],"rdau:P60193":[{"@type":"schema:CreativeWork","bibo:volume":["2"],"dce:title":[{"@type":"bf:Title","bf:mainTitle":[{"@language":"deu","@value":"DAC - DIGITALES JOURNAL FÜR KUNST- & KULTURWISSENSCHAFTEN"}]}]}],"role:aut":[{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"University of Southampton"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/01ryk1543"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Peleg"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Ran"}],"skos:exactMatch":[{"@type":"ids:orcid","@value":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9184-6030"}]},{"@type":"schema:Person","schema:affiliation":[{"@type":"schema:Organization","schema:name":[{"@value":"University of Southampton"}],"skos:exactMatch":["https:\/\/ror.org\/01ryk1543"]}],"schema:familyName":[{"@value":"Shaby"}],"schema:givenName":[{"@value":"Neta"}]}]}
