<dc:title xml:lang="en">Touching the soil: Urban interventions for sustainable transition. A real case analysis of citizen soil science in Meidling, Vienna.</dc:title>

<dc:description xml:lang="en">This thesis explores the transformative potential of Citizen Science in Soil (CSS) for fostering
a liveable sustainable urban future. Rooted in care and environmental ethics and aiming to
contribute to Socio-ecological Transformation (SET), the study employs a situational
grounded analysis approach. Deep literature research helps to identify important factors and
provides fundamental knowledge about the subject of investigation. Through a real-world case
study of a public soil testing project conducted in Meidling, Vienna, utilizing the Open Soil
Atlas (OSA) methods, the research analyses the societal impact of CSS. The final situational
map visualises the outcomes of the study in context to the SET. Therein the most important
factors of the case study and its interrelations are represented. The study finds that CSS has a
direct impact on citizens in the four categories of excitement and curiosity, education,
engagement, empowerment. With this it serves as an adaptable experimental intervention, that
can serve as a tool to foster exchange, raise awareness and catalyse positive change.</dc:description>
